As part of the IB Program, students take assessments that measure student achievement against set standards that look at academic skills, such as analyzing information, evaluating arguments, and problem solving, with an international outlook. The results of the assessments are built from a mix of external assessments, such as exams, essays, and written responses, as well as internal assessments scored by teachers, such as oral work in languages, science lab work, and artistic performances.

"We are so proud of our IB students at Edgewood High School and this accomplishment," said Bernard Hennigan, Deputy Superintendent for Schools. "These scores show how well prepared our IB students are when they graduate, especially when compared to their peers from across the State and the Country. These results didn't happen by accident. They're a credit to the hard work and dedication of the students, and the preparation and support provided by their teachers!"

The IB Program is an international program aimed at developing inquiring, knowledgeable, confident, and caring young people. International Baccalaureate is offered to students in more than 6,200 schools across 163 countries and is focused on helping students build future-ready skills to help them thrive in an ever-changing world.

Edgewood High School's IB program was first authorized in November 2008 and awarded full authorization in the spring of 2010. Admission is competitive; students currently in 8th grade may apply to one of the 50 to 60 available spots. Students are selected based on academic achievement, teacher recommendations, a writing sample, and school and community engagement.
